What the IEMA to ISEP rebrand means for learners

You may have heard that IEMA, the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment, is making some changes. As a training provider delivering IEMA courses across Wales, we at ACT want to make sure you’re fully informed about what this means for you as a former, current or future learner.

From this month, IEMA qualifications will be renamed ISEP, which stands for Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Practice. It’s important to know that this is a rebranding of the qualifications only, not a change to the organisation itself. IEMA remains the same respected professional body, and the courses (its content, learning outcomes and structure) remain unchanged. You’ll still be receiving the same high-quality, industry-recognised knowledge and skills that employers value. The rebrand has been introduced to better reflect the evolving nature of the environmental and sustainability profession.

The new course titles are designed to align more closely with modern job roles and the expectations of employers, while clearly communicating the purpose of each qualification in today’s workplace context.

What if I already have an IEMA qualification? 

If you’ve already completed an IEMA course with us, your certificate is still valid. There’s no need to retake any training or worry about its recognition as it remains a benchmark of your environmental and sustainability expertise. IEMA has confirmed that all qualifications issued under the old naming structure are fully recognised and carry the same weight.

What if I’m currently working towards a qualification?

If you’re currently studying an IEMA course or due to start one, the course and its content remain the same. The name of the qualification may change, but your learning experience won’t. That being said, your certificate may carry the new ISEP branding, depending on when you complete your course. We’re working closely with IEMA to ensure a smooth transition and to keep all our learners informed.
