About this Apprenticeship

To support the delivery of digital communications activity across the council while undertaking a suitable apprenticeship, developing practical skills in content creation, campaign delivery and digital channel management. The Apprentice Digital Communications Assistant will contribute to planning, creating, publishing and evaluating digital content across a range of platforms. The role supports the council’s reputation by producing accessible, engaging and user-focused content aligned to organisational priorities.

The postholder will learn to apply content design principles, understand audience needs, and use data and insight to improve communications effectiveness.

Duties

  • Assist with the creation, adaptation and publication of digital content (website, social media, internal comms, blogs, case studies).
  • Capture engaging, real-life content across Powys to support campaigns and storytelling
  • Support with scheduling and updating of content across corporate digital channels.
  • Assist in managing and maintaining corporate social media channels.
  • Proofread and check content for clarity, consistency and adherence to brand, tone of voice and accessibility guidance.
  • Help monitor digital engagement (likes, shares, comments, views) and provide basic summaries to support evaluation.
  • Support monitoring of social media channels and flag customer queries, comments or issues to senior colleagues.
  • Assist with responding to routine enquiries on digital channels where appropriate, under supervision.
  • Undertake and actively participate in a recognised apprenticeship programme.
  • Complete all required coursework, training and assessments as part of the apprenticeship.
  • Work closely with colleagues in the Communications Team, following guidance and learning from experienced communications professionals.
  • Respond to routine digital communications requests, referring more complex or sensitive issues to senior colleagues.
  • Actively seek feedback and demonstrate development of skills and knowledge over time.

A creative and motivated individual with a strong interest in digital communications and content creation. You’ll be eager to learn and develop your skills across social media and digital platforms, enjoy creating engaging content to tell our story, and stay up to date with the latest digital trends. This role offers the opportunity to learn on the job while working towards a qualification in digital design.
