Wales’ leading training provider have appointed a new Learner Representative to be the voice of work-based learners across the ACT network.

ACT welcomes Leah Howell, who previously worked in ACT’s Care, Support and Guidance team as an Additional Learning Support worker.

As a learner representative, Leah will work closely with learners from all ACT Traineeship and Apprenticeship programmes, conducting forums and focus groups to get feedback and implement positive change. She will also work within ACT’s marketing department to build relationships with schools, giving talks and presentations to pupils, and giving advice at careers fairs.

Another important part of Leah’s role will involve regularly liaising with the National Union of Students Wales (NUS Wales). ACT have been working with NUS Wales since 2016, the first Welsh training provider to do so in this capacity.

Leah commented: “I am really excited to work with and get to know the learners. I have just completed my PCET teaching qualification and I’m now in the process of completing my Learning and Development Apprenticeship, so I think my experience with young people and as an apprentice will enable me to relate to the learners and encourage constructive feedback.”

Leah’s role will bridge the gap between learners and managers to ensure all learners get the best from their ACT experience and ensure their learner journey is the best it can be.

Andrew Cooksley, ACT’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “Leah joins us at an exciting time, as we celebrate our thirtieth birthday this year. She will make a major contribution to the development of our programmes and ensure we continue to connect effectively with our learners and the Welsh Government.”
