Just received your exam results and unsure what to do next? It can be difficult thinking about your options beyond college or university, but there are a wide range of career paths and opportunities available to you. An Apprenticeship or Traineeship could be right for you if you want to earn and learn at the same time. Read on to hear from one of our learners and find out!

A Traineeship is a fantastic pre-Apprenticeship training programme for 16-18 year-olds that prepares you for the world of work. Having spent most of your time in school or college, you will need a helping hand progressing from education to the workplace – and this is what our Traineeship routes are for.

Stella left school realising that the classroom wasn’t the right learning environment for her but flourished whilst completing a Construction Traineeship with ACT. With support from ACT, she progressed quickly and secured an Apprenticeship at the Vale of Glamorgan Council working on empty houses that are in need of refurbishment.

Stella shares her top three reasons why she chose to live, learn and earn with an Apprenticeship:

1. Supportive environment

“I really benefitted from the supportive environment at ACT and would recommend the Traineeship programme to others – it’s a great place to be. There are loads of different routes you can choose between, like construction, cooking or hairdressing. It’s great that if you’re not sure what route you want to take, ACT can help you figure that out.”

2. Learn and Earn

“After deciding that college wasn’t for me, I found ACT’s Traineeship in construction and haven’t looked back. I much prefer working and learning on the job than being stuck in a classroom writing things down. It’s just not the best way for me to learn. That’s why I really enjoyed my Traineeship, and now my Apprenticeship too.”

3. Career Progression

“I’ve learnt a lot from my Traineeship with ACT. I know now that I can do pretty much anything if I put my mind to it. It’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me and the experience has made me feel like a better person. The next step for me is to go further on with my training. I’m now at the point where I’m an Apprentice for The Vale of Glamorgan Council. I’m hoping to keep pushing forward with my personal and professional development to build a better future for myself.”
