Regardless of your exam results, there are a wide range of career paths to consider. It can be daunting thinking about your options beyond college/university, but an Apprenticeship could be the right choice for you. Read on to hear from one of our Apprentices and find out!

Apprenticeships are work-based learning programmes that enable you to learn on the job, achieve nationally-recognised qualifications, develop your skills, earn a wage and build a rewarding career.

Bryony is a Healthcare Support worker in the Accident and Emergency department for Cwm Taf University Health Board. She recently completed her Level 2 Clinical Healthcare Support Apprenticeship with ACT and is now well on her way to achieving her dream of becoming a nurse.

Bryony shares her top three reasons why she chose to live, learn and earn with an Apprenticeship:

1. Tailored Programmes

“Whilst there were mandatory units for the Clinical Healthcare Support qualification, there were also optional units so I was able to choose units best suited for my role and the needs of my department. For example, I learnt how to do ECGs correctly and it’s given me a better understanding of what I’m doing in my current job role.”

2. Earn and Learn

“The best thing about Apprenticeships is that you’re able to learn and earn. I’m much better learning hands-on than in the classroom so that suited me well. My Apprenticeship has enabled me to gain more confidence and understanding of the knowledge needed within my role, and it’s fully funded too, which is a great bonus.”

3. Career progression

“Now that I’ve completed my Apprenticeship I’m studying towards a Foundation Degree in Community Health and Wellbeing. I’ve also been accepted onto a degree in Adult Nursing so once I’ve completed that degree I’m looking to work in Accident and Emergency. My Apprenticeship has really helped me get to where I am now.”
