In the run up to St David’s Day ACT held a Proud to be Welsh competition across our sub-contractors, centres and staff. Entrants were asked to combine their creative skills and passion for being Welsh across five categories.
Everyone who took part made an incredible amount of effort across all categories and we would now like to take this opportunity to announce the winners:
Category 1: Photography
Winner: Princes Trust learners, based at our Caerphilly centre.
The judges were wowed by the team spirit and Welsh hwyl that came through in the photographs along with the passion and care for Wales through the slogan.
Category 2: Written piece
Winner: Alana Price
Alana wrote a short story about the fictional character Dewi the Dragon. The judges loved the detail in the story and how Dewi made his Dad proud.
Category 3: Welsh Bake Off
Winner: Sherree Evans and Ros Protheroe
Sherree and Ros combined their culinary and creative skills to create an amazing Welsh themed cake. The judges loved the presentation and technical skills demonstrated on the cake but it also beat the others on taste.
Category 4: Vocational Skills
Winner: Shelbie Dickson
Shelbie’s hair design was loved by the judges. They were impressed by the research Shelbie had undertaken and the practical application of the techniques she’d researched.
Category 5: Performance
Winner: Sean Mitchell
Shaun created the music track “Actual Saints” for the performance category of the competition. The judges loved the focus on Wales and references to Welsh History in the track.
Highly commended
Sophie Collins’ Bara Brith was highly commended in the Welsh Bake Off category. The judges enjoyed the consistency of the cake and it tasted really good with a cup of tea!
