The 12-hour Adult Mental Health First Aid (Wales) course equips adults with the knowledge and skills to support friends, family members, and colleagues experiencing mental health challenges.

Who This Course is Aimed At:

  • Employers, managers, and HR professionals.
  • Teachers, tutors, and education support staff.
  • Healthcare and social care professionals.
  • Emergency service personnel.
  • Community and voluntary sector workers.
  • Customer service and public-facing staff.
  • Friends, family members, and carers wanting to support others.

 

Topics Covered:

  • Reducing stigma and promoting recovery.
  • Understanding mental health and mental illness.
  • Recognising signs and symptoms of common mental health problems.
  • Depression and anxiety disorders.
  • Psychosis and substance use problems.
  • Mental health crises, including:
  • Suicidal thoughts and behaviours.
  • Non-suicidal self-injury.
  • Panic attacks.
  • Traumatic events.
  • Severe psychotic states.
  • Severe effects from alcohol or drug use.
  • Aggressive behaviours.
  • Providing initial help until professional support is available.
  • Using the MHFA action plan to guide support.

The Adult Mental Health First Aid (Wales) course is based on internationally recognised MHFA Guidelines. Its curriculum is grounded in evidence-based practice, shaped by the expertise of mental health professionals, researchers, and individuals with lived experience.
