Three ACT learners have impressed the judges at Skills Competition Wales 2024 earlier this month.
The national competition is an opportunity for apprentices to show their skills and knowledge of their sector. There is a category for almost every industry.
Accountancy AAT Level 3 learners – Gareth Williams, Marcia Lewis and Jessica Poole – all took part in the contest and while final results are yet to be announced, the trio have received some incredible feedback from the judges.
In the competition, competitors are given tasks that reflect typical aspects of work and responsibilities carried out by those studying bookkeeping. The challenge is also designed to test other key employability skills including the quality of written communication and the ability to prioritise tasks and teamwork.
Amongst the feedback, judges were particularly impressed with Gareth, Marcia and Jessica’s work ethic and collaboration.
The reported said: “The team demonstrated good communication, working quietly on tasks and speaking only when necessary. This indicates a focused and efficient approach to task management.
“Teamwork was highlighted as a strength, with team members helping each other with queries and supporting each other throughout the tasks. The team was noted for its respectful and polite demeanour, which made them a credit to their organisation.”
Responding to the positive news, Nerys Hiscocks, AAT tutor at ACT, said: “They are three of my most promising learners and they went into the competition with such a good attitude and were smiling and enjoying themselves all day.
“I am proud to be their tutor and they made me even prouder with how they conducted themselves and their attitudes within the competition and the engagement in the after talks.”
AAT Route Co-ordinator Karen Richards added: “I knew how knowledgeable they were, but it was their professionalism, co-operation and execution of the tasks set for them, that was so impressive. I am extremely proud of each of them. I hope they will register for WorldSkills UK competition, as I believe they would shine in that arena.”
