About this course
The ILM Effective Mentoring qualification is designed for individuals who want to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to become effective mentors in a variety of settings, including organisations, community groups, and the voluntary sector.
Throughout the programme, learners will gain an understanding of the role and responsibilities of a mentor, while developing practical mentoring skills such as active listening, effective questioning, goal setting, and performance reflection.
This qualification is for those who wish to develop their knowledge and skills in order to understand and undertake effective mentoring in a range of situations, such as an organisation, the voluntary sector, community groups, etc.
Learners will have a 1-hour virtual meet and greet with their tutor and will be assigned 2 modules.

This qualification will primarily be self-directed blended learning, using a combination of online bite-sized, flexible learning modules.
Learners are supported and encouraged throughout their qualification to reach their full potential in their chosen industry. Successful learners may progress onto the Level 3 Effective Communication.
To start an Apprenticeship in Wales, you need to be:
- aged 16 or over (there is no upper age limit)
- living in Wales
- not in full-time education
- not accessing any other funding from the Welsh Government

If you’re looking to undertake an Apprenticeship qualification as a way of upskilling within your current role, you will also need to be:
- employed for a minimum of 16 hours
- supported by your employer to undertake the qualification
- committed to undertaking an average of 4-6 hours of study a month
- working in a role that is relevant to the qualification
- employed for at least 51% of your contracted hours in Wales
