The Education Information Systems Team is looking to employ a Corporate Apprentice (Level 2) Data & Digital Support Assistant based at County Hall, Atlantic Wharf, Cardiff, CF10 4UW. As an apprentice you will contribute to their Service which supports and manages Cardiff Schools’ pupil data, through maintenance and development of a central pupil database, reports and analysis of pupil performance in Cardiff, providing data to all Education teams and providing Statutory and Local Data Returns to Welsh Government and other Services/Organisations.

This role will involve working online from home with occasional working from their office base depending on preference and/or team needs.

Location:County Hall, Atlantic Wharf, Cardiff, CF10 4UW

Hours: Full time. 37. hours per week

Pay:£24,413 per annum

Apprenticeship: Level 2 Digital Application Support

Key Duties:

  • Assist with system administration, support and development of the central Education’s MIS, processing data, data monitoring and cleansing and develop key skills in system application support.
  • Use databases and reporting tools to extract and analyse data.
  • Understand the design, development, production and maintenance of management information reports and dashboards. Learning and gaining experience on software such as Microsoft Office (particularly with Excel), Crystal Reporting Tool, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), and Power BI.
  • Support the collation, validation, and analysis of Statutory and Local Data Returns.
  • Assist with liaison with schools, education colleagues and ICT teams to enhance understanding of data collection, processing and reporting methods and opportunities.
  • Provide general administrative support including word processing and data processing, dealing with email enquiries and Help Desk.
  • To learn and develop knowledge on the General Data Protection Regulation, Freedom of Information Act, and various Information Sharing Agreements between the Education Directorate and other related services/organisations, to ensure and comply that information is held and made available in accordance with these legal principles.

Essential:

  • You must live with in the boundaries of Cardiff
  • GCSE Grade G or above in Maths or Essential Skills Wales Level 1 in Application of Number or equivalent.
  • GCSE Grade G or above in English (and/or Welsh) or. Essential Skills Wales Level 1 in Communication or equivalent.
  • Able to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet device
  • Can speak and write fluently in English and/or Welsh to speak to colleagues and customers, take messages, or ask questions to gain understanding.
  • You do not have a degree (graduates are not eligible to apply for Level 2 apprentice roles).

Desirable:

  • Demonstrate an interest in the advertised role and in the work of the team.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of the work of the Council.
  • Examples of work experience gained whether voluntary or paid in any role in any sector.
  • Welsh Language, or other community language skill at any level e.g. basic greetings or more advanced.
